are kosher and chametz the same

Chametz is specifically the foods we're not allowed to eat during Passover--anything leavened made with oats, wheat, barley, rye, or spelt. So that immediately cuts out a lot of American desserts, though it helps that I don't like most cakes anyway, but there's a whole category of traditional Passover desserts: flourless chocolate cakes, jelly rings, macaroons, mousse, almond cakes...
