I'm real dubious about media this week

Definite apocalypse vibes as the sky is blue but slightly hazy thanks to the smoke from the entire west coast burning traveling thousands of miles to us. 2020 continues to deliver.

The trailer for The Mandalorian season 2 dropped and it looked incredibly good, but I'm also very annoyed at Disney for not just filming the Mulan remake in Xinjiang but also thanking the local security bureau or, as I put it elsewhere, they didn't just film it in Xinjiang, they thanked the concentration camp guards. That's unbelievably egregious, well beyond the usual ethical considerations in dealing with the CCP. I'm not really sure I want to give them any money after that.

2020-09-16 - Farmer's Market dinner

A salad composed of kale and radish microgreens from Wild Coyote Farm, with leftover tomatoes and peppers from the Hardin's Family Farm box and topped with morel and leek cheese from Stamper Cheese, as well as strawberries and blueberries and a raspberry viniagrette from [instagram.com profile] sashagee's parents. On the side is some Zesto Pesto bread from Bennison's bakery, which I topped with raw honey that my parents bought me.

There will be no farmer's market dinner next week because it's the High Holy Days and I'm taking the day off, so for this week I wanted something low-key. We still have a bunch of vegetables left over from that box and since it's been a couple weeks, they're probably on the edge of going bad, so I thought I should use them all up. The bread was a last-minute purchase that I made when the baker gave me a cherry and cheese Danish instead of that plum Danish that [instagram.com profile] sashagee had ordered. I showed him the error, he offered to throw in an almond croissant as an apology for not having the right Danish. I took the croissant with thanks. I'll eat it later.

The salad was delicious, even though I put a bit too much vinaigrette on it, but the real standout was the bread. It was delicious, with chunks of garlic stuck in it, and with the honey on it, it was unreal. I'm glad I decided to make a huge scramble yesterday so that now I can toast this bread and eat it all.

2020-09-16 - Farmer's Market dessert

A double chocolate walnut brownie from Leticia's Natural Bakery. Normally I like to put vanilla ice cream on nearly everything, but this looked sweet enough by itself, and anyway, I've found that frosting and ice cream don't mix at all for me. Also, this is one third of the brownie. I normally eat the entire dessert, even when there's way too much of it and I shouldn't, but the brownie must have been 15 cm square. It was huge! I'll have dessert for tomorrow and the next day out of it at least.

I had originally pre-ordered Super Mario 3D All-Stars but I cancelled it yesterday when I learned that the games are all just emulated, which I can do right now with what I have on my computer. [facebook.com profile] aaron.hosek even said that the Mario 64 port isn't widescreen-compatible, which means that I get 4K resolution and native widescreen support with my PC rebuild of Mario 64 and poor Switch fans get a thrown-together port, once again validating my decision to be a PC gamer. All games come to PC eventually.
