dorchadas: (Warcraft Face your Nightmares)
My dentist opened up today, to my surprise, and I was the first patient in after they reopened, so they got to test their new procedures on me. They took my temperature--97.4°F, which is in line with my usually-colder body temperature--had me wash my hands and rinse out my mouth with hydrogen peroxide, and then in addition to asking me about my medical history, had me fill out a coronavirus quiz with questions about whether I've been feeling any symptoms, whether I've had contact with any confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus in the last fourteen days, that sort of thing. I answered no to them all, and the dental hygienist checked me out from behind a mask, face shield, and gloves. I hope that works for them--poking around in people's mouth seems particularly dangerous nowadays.

I generally have very good teeth health and that's still true--the dentist described them as "awesome"--but there were two things they brought up, one of which I didn't care about and one of which I did. The former was that there's some staining on my teeth due to my propensity to drink enormous amounts of tea, but since drinking tea is healthy itself, I'm fine with a bit of cosmetic discoloration. The latter was more worrying, which is that there's a microfracture in the back of my right front tooth. That tooth is curved just a little in, so it's a harder impact where it contacts the lower tooth and that might have caused the damage. The dentist had to dry the tooth, look at it from a specific angle, and use a light to see it, so it's not like I need immediate surgery, but of course anything wrong with my teeth is a cause for worry. And I now I can feel something there, which means my brain is overreacting Emoji Sweatdrop

They suggested a night guard, so they're going to call my insurance and see if they'll cover it. If they do, might as well get one--I'm pretty sure I don't grind my teeth at night because I don't have any of the symptoms that [personal profile] schoolpsychnerd (who did) had, but you never know. And in the meantime, I'll just fret. Not much else I can do about it!
