Sixth Month Baby Update
2021-Nov-19, Friday 09:22This is about a week late, but last weekend
sashagee's mother and grandmother were in town. They spent most of both days with us, though we didn't do anything other than have them spend time with Laila. It was also my father's birthday, though thanks to
sashagee's family being in town we were unable to attend a birthday dinner. Laila's sixth month birthday was pretty quiet, all things considered.
She has object permanence! At least somewhat--
sashagee bought a wipe warmer with light to put near her changing station, and now that Laila is big enough to reach it, she kept grabbing the cord. I moved the cord out of the way and the first time she was being changed afterwards she reached over, her hands met empty air, and looked up toward where the cord was and her empty hand. She clearly knew something should have been there. Now that there's no cord there to fiddle with, she's taken to reaching over and trying to open the drawers of the little boxes
sashagee has on her dresser.
She just loves cords in general, actually. Anything like that she'll grab--she always grabs my necklace when I'm holding her, and
sashagee is thinking about making some ropes for her to learn how to tie them together and do other projects.
She can't crawl quite yet, though she's trying. I've seen her get up on her hands and knees and try to move around but she's not quite strong enough yet. She can definitely scoot herself around, though--if I turn around for too long she's in a separate place. She's much more dexterous with her hands as well. The last time I fed her with a bottle, when
sashagee was in the shower, she held the bottle herself and was strong enough to keep it in place even when I let it go.

This photo is of Laila in a 6-9 month warm baby coat. When we first got some 6-9 month clothes as presents they looked impossibly large, like Laila would never ever be big enough to fit into them. And here she is, peacefully sleeping in the car. She hasn't been peacefully sleeping so much this last week, though--
sashagee went to her parents' house on Wednesday and Laila cried almost the entire way back, and last night she cried for nearly two hours before falling asleep. She's teething, is part of the problem, but we were also told that her medicine might make her more fussy. She just cried as I was writing this, but when
sashagee went to check on her she had rolled over on her stomach and fallen back asleep. Gas is a symptom of teething because of all the air babies end up swallowing and that's definitely Laila's troubles.
How will she grow and change in the future?
