I have never seen a modern mausoleum, but in New Orleans and southern Louisiana they often had family ones. From what I was told, often older remains would be scooped up into another container to make room for new occupants, but I was never told how that practice would continue given our modern mania for embalming and preserving corpses.

Regular folks there would get small above-ground crypts, because flooding.
