I was just thinking about how this blog used to be almost entirely about cooking and video games and tabletop RPGs and now it's mostly about me staying up late, out drinking with women I've met in the last two years.

Sometimes the more things change, the more they don't stay the same at all. Or, as the Japanese say, 来年のことを言えば鬼が笑う rainen no koto wo ieba oni ga warau, "When you speak of the future, a demon laughs."

I've heard something similar in English -- I don't remember the exact quote, but it's something like "There's nothing God finds funnier than people who make plans."

(Edit: After commenting, I had to go look up the quote to figure out where it was that I'd heard it, and I now I realize it's not actually a famous quote or saying at all. Just one that happened to stick with me, I guess. It's a quote from film director Nicolas Roeg, and now remember that where I heard it was in an interview with David Bowie about The Man Who Fell to Earth, which Roeg directed. The actual quote is just "What makes God laugh is people who make plans.")
