That time has come again!

I'm currently sitting with Laila on my lap, wrapped in a blanket and sound asleep as I write this. She's still refusing to fall asleep without direct contact with one of us--it turns out that humans needs to be taught how to make themselves fall asleep--and we haven't accomplished that yet, so one of us always needs to be up so we can hold her to let her fall asleep. The pediatrician that [instagram.com profile] sashagee went to on Tuesday recommended just plopping her in the bed and letting her cry, and while it's true that we shouldn't come running every single time she makes a noise since learning to self-soothe is a vital human skill, that doesn't mean that a week-old-baby needs to be abandoned to learn that life is cruel. We'll be tired for a bit and try to gradually teach Laila that her bassinet is not a cold place where she's all alone and that mommy and daddy are right there with her. But until then, well, I slept four hours last night and [instagram.com profile] sashagee is asleep right now. Emoji Byoo dood Hence my insomnia icon--I think it's never been more appropriate.

2021-05-19 - Farmer's Market Dinner

A sun-dried tomato and spinach pizza from Enoteca Roma with grilled asparagus from Hardin's Family Farm. Since I had a rather eventful last week, I wanted to stick with something simple that I didn't have put a lot of effort into preparing. I also got a tomato basil pesto pizza and I had originally intended both pizzas to be for [instagram.com profile] sashagee, but she asked if I wanted one and I wasn't going to say no--the Moroccan soup I got can wait for another time. I tried both pizzas, and they were good, without an excess of sauce and with cheese that didn't place stretchability as its most important feature. My pizza was a little odd, because instead of cutting up the sun-dried tomatoes there were enormous chunks of it at key strategic locations, meaning some parts of the pizza had it and some had none, but just the spinach/cheese/crust combo was great.

[instagram.com profile] sashagee's pizza was crispier, more Chicago tavern-style, which is usually how I like my pizza. I underdid mine because she said hers was a bit overdone, and she preferred my crust doneness to hers. Maybe we should have just swapped pizzas. Emoji This or that by brokenboulevard

The asparagus was good, as it always is after [livejournal.com profile] meadowyravine got onto me about microwaving it instead of grilling it. Now that I have a stainless steel pan, it's easy to just throw it in with some olive oil and salt and that is exactly what I did. Scrumptious.

2021-05-19 - Farmer's Market Dessert

A miso donut from Downstate Donuts. I heard the seller mentioning them in a list of donut types when I was buying the asparagus and while I wasn't originally planning on getting dessert, I had to. On the way home I thought that maybe I had already tried a miso donut from them since I remember buying one last year, but I checked and it was actually a strawberry rosé donut, and my review from back then mostly applies. It was a donut and I didn't really taste any miso flavor, though it certainly had a richer taste than the strawberry rosé one. Nice fluff I suppose.

That's it for this post--I made time for the farmer's market but it's hard to have time for much else. [instagram.com profile] sashagee's family came to visit so I met her grandmother and mother finally, and they gave us a four-hour nap on Sunday which was probably the greatest gift they could have given us. Her parents are coming again this weekend, and then my parents next weekend. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more of both in the future, because this is the first grandchild for both sides and she's probably going to be spoiled rotten. There are worse fates.
