On a lighter note

A lot of my recent posts have been just a massive bitchfest, so I thought I would post something happier and more uplifting about the things that have been going on my life. Then I got a call from the insurance company saying that, due to a miscommunication, they need
schoolpsychnerd's father's driver's license number, SS and DOB as well as his address, and they'll cancel her policy if we don't get it to them by 8 a.m. tomorrow.
But, true to my promise to myself, I will not launch into a massive rant about insurance.
Life is pretty good. I got War of the Lions, the remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, yesterday. They redid all the dialogue to make it more true to the original as well as translated it in a more Middle English style. So, one of the first quotes from Ramza is him yelling, "Throw down your swords, or die still clutching them!" to a bunch of thieves. I'm only in the first battle, and I can tell it was made before Disgaea, but I've still repeatedly been told that the price of a PSP was worth it for the ability to play this game, so we'll see if people are right.
I can't get too far until I beat Xenogears, though. I'm almost to disk 2 of that game, and I hear disk 2 is about half the length of disk 1. So that'll be done soon. It's weird...I'm starting to find that classic RPG battle systems annoy the hell out of me, and in RPGs with them I tend to prefer the cutscenes. I really liked FFXII's system (though I haven't played much of it), but in Xenosaga my favorite parts were the story cutscenes.
schoolpsychnerd and I finished our literacy volunteer teaching class today. It was pretty short (just 15 hours), but since we elected to get placed in ESL classes we'll have the teacher's guidance to draw on as well. I'm hoping we get placed in classes on the same day, since otherwise it'll eat up two of our nights together per week, which would be pretty annoying. Putting us in the same class would be overkill and a waste of resources, though, so we'll see what they pick.
I love being able to cook for myself. I could have cooked back when I was at Penn, but usually didn't, partially out of laziness, partially because of all the food carts selling good food for cheap, and partially because our fridge was 70% drinks since none of us drank the same stuff as anyone else. Now that I live with someone who shares most of my tastes in food and my enjoyment of cooking, it's easy to cook plenty of good food whenever we want. The only problem is the massive number of leftovers that stuff our fridge...

Date: 2007-Oct-17, Wednesday 17:44 (UTC)And by slow, I mean "takes 10-15 hours to really get into the main plot and what's actually going on."
And they ran out of money, so the second disc apparently is a lot of white text about what happened on a black screen with the occasion gameplay interlude.
But before disc 2 and after the beginning? Yeah, it's a ton of fun.
I'll let you decide whether you think the buy-in cost is too high. :p

Date: 2007-Oct-17, Wednesday 17:42 (UTC)That's exactly what we do. It also means that we cook twice a week and have enough food for seven days. :p

Date: 2007-Oct-17, Wednesday 18:35 (UTC)Picked up Valkyrie Profile and that Joan of Arc game. Tactics i'll get soon too.
Tactics is just a classic strategy RPG. It was made LONG before Disgaea, and doesn't have a million quirks or anything. However, it does get much better as the game continues. Just make sure your characters do SOMETHING every turn (like throw stones, cheer, heal themselves). That's how you level up. But you're smart, and I'm sure you've already figured that out.
Might give you a call later. I'm in the burbs today and thought maybe I could stop by to say hello for awhile before I head home. <3

Date: 2007-Oct-19, Friday 03:18 (UTC)the original line for that one wasn't too bad, in fact it is one of the few that i directly remember from the game. "surrender or die in obscurity"
