Panic! at the Kernel

I feel like I've made that joke before, unfortunately.
In the last week, my desktop has restarted three times with Kernel Power Error 41, every time when I wasn't using it. Error 41 just means that it shut down when it wasn't expecting to, so the list of things that could be causing it is a mile long. Last time this exact problem happened it was the RAM, so last night I ran MemTest and left it on overnight. When I woke up this morning it had tested for ten hours with no errors, so that's almost certainly not the problem, which means random testing!
The error log yesterday had nothing for hours before a sudden shutdown, so who knows what the problem is. I swapped the power cables around in case it's a bad socket, and I'm going to try doing some driver updates when I get home today. I might turn off Sleep Mode too--I had some problems with that with my previous computer and disabling it prevented them from occurring. then I just have to wait and see if the problem reoccurs, and if it does, try more things. Maybe replace the power cable? Or the PSU? Update the BIOS? Random shutdowns could be literally anything.
Trying to find a problem that occurs less than once a day, at random times, and always when the computer isn't being used is frustrating, to say the least.
At least I have Breath of the Wild and coding practice now, neither of which need my desktop.

Date: 2018-Aug-14, Tuesday 16:22 (UTC)Thank you! I've got some more ideas to try, and all my data is redundantly backed up, so hopefully I can sort this out soon.

Date: 2018-Aug-19, Sunday 21:35 (UTC)I stopped the hard disk from shutting down after the computer had been idle, which caused problems with a previous computer. Hopefully that's the real problem and everything is fine now!
