I was going to blame IT for this, but I suspect they're just implementing a directive from further above.
Yesterday my computer was updated to Windows 10, which means that someone from IT came by, took the thick-book-sized case that houses what's technically my computer, and swapped it out for one that already had Windows 10 on it. The IT tech noticed I had a few programs I hadn't specifically asked for because I assumed they wouldn't be approved--Firefox, for one--and made a note that she'd push them for install to my new machine, which was the first warning sign. When she left to go work on getting me the other programs I needed to do my job, I started reconfiguring my computer--logging into the work health incentive website, that kind of thing--and saw that there was a Chrome shortcut on the desktop. Well, I just pin everything I use daily to the taskbar, so I went to delete it...and got a message that I needed administrative permission. To delete a shortcut.
I got LibreOffice back on the computer thanks to a portable install, and I'm glad that the tech gave me Firefox even though I didn't ask for it. I spent the rest of the day unable to work because the programs I thought would come with the computer that I needed to do my job weren't installed, so I left early and went home. Today things seem to work alright, but I'm curious what other problems will reveal themselves and cause me to lose more days of work. Guess we'll see!

Date: 2020-Feb-26, Wednesday 19:29 (UTC)I prefer FF at home, but our apps seem sluggish on it and man I hate that Chrome is the new IE! (literally now the MS is using Blink or whatever the engine is called now).
