So over the past few years, I played through every mainline Legend of Zelda game, in order of release, in Japanese, and wrote a review of every one after I beat it. Here they are:

I wasn't a huge Zelda fan before I started this, but I certainly am now. What a great series.

I only beat 1, 2, Wind Waker & Breath of The Wild.

Would have Phantom Hourglass, if my DS and games weren't stolen. Also LttP but only barely got to the dark world.

Twilight Princess (wii) bored me to tears, and Skyward started good then I got annoyed/frustrated...

But yeah, I do love some good zelda.

I played the Twilight Princess GameCube version this time, because the same thing happened to me the first time I tried to play the Twilight Princess Wii version. Got seven hours in, stalled out, never played it again.

Was your problem with Skyward Sword the controls? That was my big hangup when I played.

For SS - I mostly didn't mind the controls except for maybe some aiming issues with the bow now and then, and after a while the bird thing got boring/tiring. But I still preferred the bird to the boat in WW.

I think it was that I got tired of the desert/minecart area, and kinda stuck there, then when I tried to go back just never got back into it (which happens a lot to me with longer games (esp RPGs)).

In some ways I'd like to revisit both, but in others, I have so many on my steam backlog, as well as the wii, that I have a feeling I won't.

That was my problem too--it's part of the reason I stuck it all the way through to Breath of the Wild, because I knew that otherwise I'd never play Skyward Sword.

I make it a habit to play one game at a time and play all the way through to the end, though. Partially because I keep writing these reviews.

Now I am reminded that I should attempt to finish "Ocarina of Time 3DS" and "Breath of the Wild". Now that I am on summer break, I should do that.

I love "A Link to the Past" a lot. That one I had a lot of fun with.

A Link to the Past was previously my favorite Zelda game!

Breath of the Wild is definitely worth playing. I've only played the N64 version of Ocarina of Time, but it still held up almost 20 years after I first played it.

3) Wind Cap. Wait, I mean the Minish Waker. Fuck, uh.

Wind Waker is really good except for the Triforce hunt and for the way that Tetra is great until she becomes Zelda, after which she hangs out in a castle and then gets kidnapped. Minish Cap is cute and fun and has amazing graphics and music but Gufū (Eng: Vaati) wasn't a compelling villain at all.

I love Wind Waker SO MUCH, but yes the Triforce hunt was tedious. It was the only Zelda game that ever surprised me story-wise, though.

I...haven't played the other three though. Whoops.

The Original on NES and OoT still hold special places in my heart. The latter is the game I've beaten more times than any other game.

Wind Waker had the best Ganon in the series because he actually has a reason why he's doing everything. Like, ワシの国は砂漠の中にあった / "My country was in the midst of a desert", finally there's some explanation.

(He's lying, since in OoT post-conquest the Gerudo still live in the desert while he lords it up in his levitating darkness throne, but centuries later he at least believes he had a good reason)

Breath of the Wild is dozens of hours so it's a huge commitment, but A Link to the Past is like 12 hours and it's the first game that started the formula that OoT perfected. I really recommend it if you have a way to play it.
